Air travel is far more different than land travel. The risks involve is higher since you will be riding an aircraft, which is a more dangerous form of travel machine. Luckily, I’m not afraid of heights. Still, the feeling of riding an airplane for the first time makes me nervous.
Going International is quite exciting. You get to experience a foreign way of life – from seeing the sights or places the country offers to the kind of food and drinks locals consume.
For my first international travel dated June 2013, I chose Singapore.
Singapore is known for its Merlion, a creature having the head of a lion and the body of a fish. This is the symbol of this country as it depicts Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village. This creature can be seen at Marina Bay and Sentosa.
Getting Around Singapore
Getting around this beautiful country is easy. You can ride a taxi, bus and/or train to arrive at your preferred destination. I recommend riding the train whenever possible because this is the most convenient way of getting to and from different places.
For added convenience, consider getting an electronic smart card upon your arrival to the country so you just have to tap it whenever you ride a train – just make sure to cash in enough amount for the duration of your travel. Also, arm yourself with a map that contains the route of which train – train routes are color-coded on the map so it’s quite easy to navigate. The good thing about riding trains is that when you accidentally got out of the train and discovered that you are in the wrong terminal, you can ride another train without being charged, provided though that you don’t get out of the terminal where you need to tap your card.
Places to Visit
Marina Bay
Marina Bay is surrounded by luxury malls, restaurants, shops, hotels, and sights you must visit. This is known for the colorful trees and flower conservatories of Gardens by the Bay, Helix Bridge, and the tall Ferris wheel. One day may not be enough to get to see all the great things it offers. I recommended walking around the bay and stopping by or visiting world-renowned trendy leisure spots and artistic sculptures.
Sentosa
Sentosa is an island in Singapore that is home to themed attractions, exciting rides/events, tropical landscapes, and pristine beaches. There are 3 ways to get to this island – by cable car, monorail or boardwalk. If you have the budget, try riding the cable car. But if you want to lose some weight, choose the boardwalk.
Other great places to visit include Chinatown where you can taste some of the best Singapore delicacies and Little India where you can see and be shocked by huge veggies.
